Wonder at Britain’s highest, inland limestone cliffs rising 450ft, and explore the depths of the stunning stalactite caverns below that were created by Ice Age melt-waters over millions of years. It doesn’t matter whether you are interested in nature, history or geology, or just want to see some breath-taking views; you’ll find it all at Cheddar Gorge & Caves.
This world-famous natural wonder is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation. You can see an array of flora including the Cheddar pink, early purple orchids and the rare Twin Cliffs, Gough’s Rock and Cheddar whitebeam. As well as an abundance of wildlife from insects such as small pearl-bordered fritillaries, violet oil beetles and green orb-weaver spiders, to woodland birds like the great spotted woodpecker and tree creepers. If you are still here at dusk, keep your eyes peeled for the greater and lesser horseshoe bats who leave the caves in the evening to hunt.
Visit the Museum of Pre-History to learn all about archaeological findings made in the caves from our prehistoric past. This includes the discovery of the oldest, most complete human skeleton in 1903, known as ‘Cheddar Man’, dating back to the Mesolithic Age over 10,000 years ago.
Explore the depths of Gough’s Cave with multi-lingual audio guides telling the fascinating story of the cave’s Ice Age creation, Stone Age occupation and Victorian exploration. discover our new spectacular multimedia experience, Yeo's Journey in Cox's Cave that tells the captivating story of how our iconic caves were formed and evolved through the ‘power of water’. Journey through time and be immersed in this fascinating adventure, brought to life with state-of-the-art animation, sound, lighting and colour projected against the cave chamber walls. Immerse yourself in all facets of the gorge with the cinematic journey: Beyond the View.

Adventure Activities: Cheddar Gorge & Caves is perfect for those seeking adventure with a range of Rocksport activities for all abilities instructed by experienced and qualified instructors.
Escape Rooms: If you’d prefer to test your brain power, you could take part in the Cheddar-themed, real-life Escape Rooms. Choose from the intense, artefact-focused ‘Vault’ room or the hands-on, logical ‘Caved In’ and see if you can beat the clock.

Corporate: Cheddar Gorge & Caves is also a great location for all your out of the office, team building needs. You can combine work and play with a meeting and an adventure activity. We can provide bespoke packages, providing access to any of our six exciting attractions, instructor-led rocksport activities (caving, climbing and freefall) for groups of 10 people, access to our escape rooms, and use of our meeting room facilities with catering provision as required.
