The Brewhouse Theatre and Arts Centre is situated alongside the bank of the River Tone in the centre of Taunton. Built on the site of an old brewery with the Georgian Brewmaster’s house still incorporated, 2017 saw the 40th anniversary of the original theatre which currently offers an auditorium seating 352 alongside purpose-built exhibition area, spaces for rehearsal, recent refurbishes studio space (thanks to Theatres Trust grant) and meetings plus a café/bar, kiosk and other associated facilities, all of which are available to hire. Immediately behind the theatre is the Somerset County Cricket Ground. The railway station is about 10 minutes’ walk and a new walking route is currently being constructed. The M5 is quickly accessed via Junction 25.
At the Brewhouse, we offer entertainment, art and culture of all genre: drama, musical drama, music of every kind, ballet/dance, comedy, and ‘spoken word’. Family shows form around a third of the output and high-quality local community companies contribute as well as touring regional and national professional companies. There is a programme of art exhibitions while the cinema, operating in the main auditorium when not in use for performance, offers live events from national and international venues as well as selected new and classic films.
Our ‘Learn’ programme offers a broad range of engagement activities for all ages from toddlers to seniors. We support college productions and work collaboratively with schools and colleges, and with organisations providing arts related training for young people.
The Brewhouse is run by a diverse, ambitious and committed team of visionary artists, curators, producers, educators, strategists, technicians and volunteers.
We are embedded at the heart of Taunton’s community and we also reach out across the South-West of England, working collaboratively with like-minded individuals and organisations to fulfil our mission to inspire and transform.
