About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and highly organised Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Officer to join our team in Langport. This is a pivotal role within our alternative provision, ensuring that all learners receive both high-quality, personalised education and holistic pastoral support.
The successful candidate will play an important part in supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally, working closely with staff, families, and external agencies. This role combines administrative expertise with pastoral leadership, safeguarding responsibilities, and curriculum support.

Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding

  • Act as a Deputy Safeguarding Lead across the school.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding legislation and guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
  • Work closely with the organisation’s safeguarding leads to implement actions relating to safeguarding concerns.
  • Liaise with social workers and external agencies to ensure the wellbeing and protection of vulnerable children and families.
  • Ensure all child protection plans are maintained and implemented effectively.
  • Attend multi-agency meetings and report regularly to the designated line manager.
  • Support the Senior Leadership Team and Governors in ensuring safeguarding policies and procedures are followed and regularly updated.
Curriculum Leadership
  • Support the design and development of a broad, balanced, and inclusive curriculum suited to learners in alternative provision.
  • Monitor and evaluate schemes of learning to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Support staff in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons.
  • Oversee assessment processes, progress tracking, and reporting.
  • Promote innovative curriculum approaches, including vocational and therapeutic pathways alongside academic learning.
Pastoral Support
  • Take responsibility for supporting the pastoral care and wellbeing of students.
  • Help implement systems to monitor attendance, behaviour, and engagement.
  • Build positive relationships with students and support their personal development.
  • Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead on safeguarding and child protection processes.
  • Coordinate interventions and support plans for students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
Administration & Operations
  • Act as the first point of contact for visitors, families, and external agencies.
  • Manage reception duties, telephone calls, and email enquiries.
  • Maintain accurate pupil records in line with GDPR and safeguarding requirements.
  • Support admissions, referrals, and student transitions.
  • Monitor attendance and contribute to pupil welfare systems.
  • Prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence.
  • Attend meetings, reviews, and multi-agency communications.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with education and pastoral staff.
  • Support staff through coaching, mentoring, and professional guidance where appropriate.
  • Assist with administrative oversight of staffing, resources, and compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with parents, carers, and external partners to support student progress.
  • Participate in training and continuous professional development.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • Previous experience in administration, ideally within education, health, or care.
  • Strong organisational and IT skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Calm, empathetic, and professional approach.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly to a range of audiences.
